Looking to donate or volunteer? There are plenty of opportunities to get involved!
Donating
Out On The Shelves’ collection is comprised almost entirely of your generous donations! We accept new and used books and DVDs in good condition. Donations will be assessed to ensure they meet our collection goals (queer content and/or by a queer creator). Rarely, we may accept items that do not meet our collection goals with the understanding that those materials may be returned, sold, or donated to another co-op. Please email us with any questions! outontheshelveslibrary@gmail.com
Volunteer
Volunteering with us is typically a four month time commitment, after which you can continue volunteering, or step away from the role. Volunteers typically work 1 shift per week that is 1-2 hours in length. Shifts are typically worked alone, although you’re always welcome to bring friends.
No previous library experience is required to start volunteering – we’ll teach you everything you need/want to know! You’ll be at the front desk, and core duties include answering reference questions, making library cards, checking materials in/out, shelving, shelf reading, cataloguing, and making reader’s advisory materials.
We also have opportunities for volunteers to help out with outreach, event planning, social media, collections development/fundraising, and other tasks- just let us know what interests you!
